5 Things I’d Prioritize If I was Starting a Business in 2025
2025 feels like a GREAT year to kick start that business of yours that you’ve been thinking about bringing to life. And if that’s the case I want to equip you with what I would prioritize in those early stages.
As you will come to learn—there are ALWAYS things to be done as an entrepreneur. You realize it isn’t solely the service your providing or the product you’re created but you are now stepping into your CEO status and running the show in all the ways. The hats you are wearing are multiplying—especially in the beginning and so here is what I would prioritize when the list feels long and you are unsure of where to begin.
First Priority: Be a student
It’s time to go back to school….but this kind of schooling is way more fun because you get to pick the classes! If I was starting over the first thing that I would be prioritizing is learning and soaking up EVERYTHING that I could get my hands on. What are the skills you need to get you from where you are to where you want to go? What knowledge do you need to help you get there? What mindset shifts can support you?
There are resources for ALL of the above.
Search for 5 main topics that resonate with your business and/or you as a founder into podcasts, youtube, books, and more.
Example: You’re a yoga teacher who desires to branch of on your own to start your own practice (online or in person)
You may find benefit in searching:
Starting A (wellness) Business
Mindset for yoga teachers
Marketing for an online business
Tools and systems needed to start
As for podcasts and books in the business and personal development realm—I share some of my favorites on this list HERE
Second Priority: Market Research
One of the biggest mistakes I see new business owners maker (and trust me I did this too) is build your business ENTIRELY behind the scenes…..without ever having a conversation with your people! Now you may think Haley…..Who are my people? That’s where I would first identify who it is you are most likely serving.

You’re people may be closer than you think and if not the fourth priority will help you to find them! Chances are though there is SOMEONE in your life who could benefit or at least hear you out on your idea. When building this is the time to get in the trenches with your people. Ask questions and take the time to understand where they are, where they want to go, and what they really need. You can do market research in conversations, surveys, and a simple way that I love is polls on my instagram stories.
When in doubt—ask your people! This makes the creation process so much easier.
Third Priority: Prioritize Your Wellbeing
This one may surprise you at first glance because you may think….this has nothing to do with building a business? But in fact—it actually has EVERYTHING to do with building a business. You are entering your Founder Era, your CEO era. You are becoming a solopreneur who has ideas that they are extending out into the world through products or services.
You are at the core and center of everything you extend to the world which means…..if you are burning yourself out, not prioritizing your wellbeing, and feeling overall crappy for lack of a better term….you will not make the impact that you desire to make.
Third priority? Prioritizing your well-being. Fueling and moving your body, taking care of your mental health, spending time in your vision, in gratitude, in stillness, and making sure that YOU are feeling at your best to be able to give your best. If you aren’t thriving…neither will your business.
And the best part about this? You can stack this priority with the first! Go for a walk and listen to a great podcast!
Take care of YOU!
Fourth Priority: Get yourself in the room
This one may just be my favorite and was truly a game changer for my own business. Put yourself in the spaces and around people who are thinking bigger—the conversations are different.
If I was in the early stages I would remember that Rome was not only built in a day…but it was not built by one person. And although you may be starting your business on your own, you don’t have to be on the journey alone.
Being in community with other creatives through free groups, retreats, events, conferences, networking, paid masterminds, and group programs has changed the game for me.
These spaces uplift you and activate you. They remind you that there are other creatives just like you out their building, growing, doubting, and still showing up. You will be inspired, activated, motivated, and educated by getting in the room.
Whether it be through 1:1 mentorship or a free local community—find the space to get plugged in (and if you’re in the beginning stages of business I have a space down below just for you!)
Fifth Priority: Create without limitations or plans
And finally….the last thing that I would prioritize was giving myself the space to create without having a perfect plan or limiting myself. Chances are you are not equipped with the full picture yet of just how good it can get for you. Can you go in with intention and stay open to the opportunities, people, spaces, ideas that are waiting for you?
Often times in these early days we worry SO much about having it all figured out. We want to have the perfect plan before we even begin and sometimes without realizing it….that very plan we’ve created limits us before we start.
Give yourself the space to explore. Give myself the space to be creative, knowing that with time and with action, clarity and confidence will be strengthened. Give yourself the space to make mistakes. Progress can be messy but it’s still progress.
In closing!
Starting a business can feel daunting but I hope with these first few priorities it helps to simplify your process even just a little bit.
You are not alone on the journey my friend and if you are reading this I am celebrating the HECK out of you for making the decision to start. That in and of itself is a HUGE thing to celebrate. Well done!
