How to Start Your Business With Confidence

Have you found yourself procrastinating? Getting stopped by perfectionism? Doubt?

You are not alone my friend–starting a business is no easy feat. I often say that this process is 90% mindset and 10% skill. Knowing how to show up as your most confident self is a game changer in the beginning stages of business.

Today, I want to share with you the 5 key pieces that helped me to step into the confident woman that is now creating her dream life, dream business, and stepping into her calling.

1. Lean in to your strengths!

This seems so simple right? But when was the last time you asked yourself, what am I  skilled in? What gifts do I already have? Maybe you have a degree or a certification in something that can give you credibility?

Even if you don’t have a degree, this is as simple as what are my strengths? (or superpowers as I like to think of them.)

ACTION:

  • Take a moment to journal on any skills, gifts, past achievements, or certifications that you have and if you find yourself stuck in this activity, turn to 3 people who are supportive in your life and ask them, what are my gifts?

  • A fun question that I asked a few people in my life was, “If I was to give a TED talk on a specific subject today, what would my topic be?” It was very interesting to hear the answers on what others saw in me and I began to see how the skills and the gifts that I already had were key pieces in my vision.

I truly believe that the calling on your heart is just waiting for you to step into the next level of yourself! It’s waiting for you to lean into the potential that already lies within you. Give yourself permission to brag about yourself today--you deserve it my friend!

2. Time Management

A friend once shared with me, if you are not honoring your own time, who else will?

And it hit me. I am willing to show up for someone else’s dream by coming into my job, but not my own? From that point, I started to become laser focused on not only managing my time, but truly committing to what I wrote in my planner.

ACTION:

  • First lay out your week, what commitments do you already have? Maybe you are balancing a full time job or family commitments? Write everything down.

  • From there, brain dump everything you could possibly do for your dreams and business this week. Now this list may feel overwhelming, but it’s not meant to be a to-do list for the next day. It’s a technique to get your brain on to paper and allow yourself to see what is next to do.

  • From here, you can figure out what are the top 3 things that will get you closer to where you want to be from this brain dump.

  • Schedule them into your week ahead.

  • Honor your top 3 and commit to your dreams.

3. Community is KEY

We all need support from time to time, especially as an aspiring business owner. Not only is community great for support, questions, and cheering on, but it is great for accountability as well. When you share your dream with someone, it keeps you accountable to create! Even if you do not currently have a great support system in your life right now, there are many ways to become plugged into a community.

Facebook groups and Instagram have become two places I have met some of the most incredible entrepreneurs. Not only do they inspire me, but they also know the struggles and are there for support to help when I ask a question. I encourage you today to get plugged in and find your community!

ACTION:

Join a Facebook group or local networking community

A few of my favorite Facebook groups are:

4. Give Yourself Grace

Starting a business or stepping into your calling is no easy feat, and so as you pursue your passion, give yourself grace. Not everything will go to plan. Not all opportunities work how you would expect them too. No one is handing you your dream on a silver platter, it takes work. You will fail more times than you can count, but through those failures you will learn. So my friend, as you pursue this path, give yourself grace along the way. Just by starting, you are doing 90% more than most people who are stuck wishing for their dream life and business.

ACTION:
Pat yourself on the back and celebrate the small victories along the way. Start a Success Journal: something I send to the clients that I coach is a success journal. A place to list all of the tiny victories and wins along the way. Maybe it was a great connection, or a new client, or the fact that you wrote your first blog. Whatever the win may be, big or small, write it down (and date it) in your success journal. Challenge yourself to find a win each day! On those tough days, go back to this journal and look at all the tiny wins you’ve already had!! Celebrate yourself often!

5. TAKE ACTION!!

Enough said right?? The only way to pursue what you love is to take the first step! It’s your time to take action my friend. If you have been waiting for a sign to go for it, HERE IT IS! You stumbled upon this blog for a reason and now is the time to begin. Nothing will happen if you stay where you are, right? I like to think about it as nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain when it comes to taking action.

It’s your time to begin.

I’m cheering you on!

The best is yet to come!

X, Haley
